The word “suicide” comes from two Latin roots, sui (“of oneself”) and cidium (“killing” or “slaying”).Suicide means killing ones own self. At particular emotional conditions people do not have the ability to think about life and life events in terms of the broader perspective or “big picture”. They tend to believe that all of the unhappiness they are feeling and experiencing will go on forever. Everything that is happening to them is in the “here and now” and they can’t begin to think that there might be a brighter future just around the corner. They often don’t believe that anyone can help them, and they feel helpless and hopeless within their situation. They believe that they can either choose to live with the pain, or end it by ending their life. Unfortunately their ultimate decision could be fatal.

Every year, almost one million people die from suicide a “global” mortality rate of 16 per 100,000, or one death every 40 seconds. In the last 45 years suicide rates have increased by 60% worldwide. Suicide is among the three leading causes of death among those aged 15-44 years in some countries, and the second leading cause of death in the 10-24 years age group; these figures do not include suicide attempts which are up to 20 times more frequent than completed suicide. In order to decrease this hectic trend of suicide trend 10th of September is recognized as World Suicide Day.

This World Suicide Prevention Day, take the time to learn about suicide, recognize the signs and help to reduce the stigma associated with help-seeking. Many awareness programmes are organized by volunteers’ collaboration with professional bodies to guide and aware people that suicide is nothing more then endless loss and there is no logical output of it in any aspect. From Islamic point of view suicide is strictly forbidden. I am coding some relevant Islamic verses below:

“Don’t’ kill yourself with your own hands” (Baqra 2:195)

Allah says explicitly in the Quran,

“And do not kill yourselves. Surely, Allah is Most Merciful to you”. (Surah An-Nisa Verse 29)

In another verse of the Quran, Allah says:

“And do not throw yourselves in destruction”(Surah Al-Baqarah Verse 195)

The prohibition of suicide has also been recorded in statements of hadith, also For example:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet said, “He who commits suicide by throttling shall keep on throttling himself in the Hell Fire (forever) and he who commits suicide by stabbing himself shall keep on stabbing himself in the Hell-Fire.”

Sahih al-Bukhari, 2:23:446

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “Whoever purposely throws himself from a mountain and kills himself, will be in the (Hell) Fire falling down into it and abiding therein perpetually forever; and whoever drinks poison and kills himself with it, he will be carrying his poison in his hand and drinking it in the (Hell) Fire wherein he will abide eternally forever; and whoever kills himself with an iron weapon, will be carrying that weapon in his hand and stabbing his abdomen with it in the (Hell) Fire wherein he will abide eternally forever.”

— Sahih al-Bukhari, 7:71:670

No doubt suicide is socially a very discouraging act of cowards truly daring people don’t deserve this blind end at all. But now have a look on psychology on suicider that why he or she commits or tries to commit it.

There are many deep, long lasting and unbearable reasons for it. Mostly it is observed that the people who try to commit suicide are very much depressed, psychotic, and impulsive. They are crying out for health either mental or physical. They have made some mistake and afraid of its reaction from the others. Because of their personal affairs like break ups and especially in divorced cases which are one of the important reason of suicide these days, because of social abuses. Many have problems with their family, with parents or other family dynamical issues. Problems at working place or educational institution. Learning to accept themselves with or without talent and abilities. We can also say that suicide is not chosen; it happens when pain exceeds resources for coping with pain.

People who’ve survived suicide attempts have reported wanting not so much to die as to stop living, a strange dichotomy but a valid one nevertheless. Some in-between state existed; try to sooth all the hardships of life by ending it instead of thinking that by doing this they will further amplify it into final net sufferings of before and after death. Last but not least by going against Allah’s order who can ever get success? As Allah says in Holly Quran:

{Say: O people of the Book! Do not exceed the limits in your Religion other than the truth, and do not follow the vain desires of people

Who went astray in times gone by, and who misled many, and strayed themselves from the Right Path}

(Glorious Qur’aan: Sooratul-Maa’idah, 5: v77)

Now what are the possible ways one can do instead of committing suicide. One can give him/herself time to think properly to make a better decision and to find out the possible productive solution. Can share it problem with some trustworthy well wisher or can get guidance about what to do further from any experienced person. Instead of killing their own selves they should promote themselves wait and should then appear with improved energy n moral. They must realize the fact which is clearly mentioned in Holly Quran;

“We are property of Allah (SWT) and we will return to Allah (SWT) one day.” (Baqra 2:156)

Throughout our lives we should have firm believe in Allah even if we are in extremely bad condition we should never lose hope as every thing in this is immortal if  happiness can’t stay forever then how it is possible that our Kindest Almighty Allah will put us in endless sorrows and problems.

National Academy of Young Scientists and Pakistan Science Foundation are trying to spread awareness to make a person think better instead of committing suicide. May Allah bless us all with the true knowledge of this world n the world after it  so that we can lead our lives in a proper well organized manner instead of spoiling the beauty of our life and this world….(AMEEN)
